In the US we make a big deal out of October 31st and I was wondering what everyone is going as. And if you don't do Halloween what are some of your favorite costumes that you feel are plus size friendly?

This year I'm going as a Flapper girl and having a blast looking up hair and makeup techniques from that era. I'm always seeming to do vintage looks for fancy dress/costume parties.

 I know few places celebrate it like we do here in the States. Do you ever just do costume parties or conventions or fairs? My friends and I are always trying to find excuses to dress up, sometimes the reason is "I haven't worn this vintage 40s summer dress in a while, 40s themed picnic in the park!!"

No halloween here either :( I'm so unsocial I think I'd explode if I made real life friends lol so no parties for me... dressing up is fun though. Whenever we get the chance we go for it. Flappers had such awesome style

I did flapper last year, I had SO much fun doing the finger-wave hairstyle and the cupid bow lips, good luck with that! I'm struggling for a costume for this year, any suggestions?

I'm actually pretty anti-social myself, at least around what would be considered "normal people" aka people who aren't massive GEEKS. I have a very small group of good friends who share in my crazy, and part of that crazy is liking to dress up in costumes. Dressing up has become some what of a protection for me, like if they are to busy looking at my false lashes maybe they won't notice how awkward I am.

The finger-waves are slowly driving me bonkers. I have done three test runs on the hair and one on the makeup, make up is good to go but the hair is going to take forever to get right.

When it comes to costumes I have three settings: Vintage/Historical, Zombie and Geek (Cosplay). Ancient Goddess is one of my favorites because I feel like any women anywhere can pull it off, regardless of shape or size. Pin up is always a great one for us plus girls because we can really play up our extra curves (not saying that only plus size ladies have curves its just we tend to have a bit more <3) and with Pin-up you can do a theme. USO, Zombie, Superhero, or Fairy Tale Pin-Us just to name a few, I feel like Superheros and Fairy Tales are super big this year. One of my all time favorites that was super easy and fabulous was my "Coco Girl". Little black dress, pearls, tweed jacket, pumps and cigarette holder. It was super easy to put together and the entire night I felt like I was sticking it to Karl Lagerfeld, which was fun.

Of course everything sorta depends on if you make your own costumes or buy them. CandlyAppleCostumes is a great place to find plussize ones that don't break the bank. My biggest costume secret is second hand shops, buy something cheap and alter it to work.

Yeah the finger-waves are difficult, I was lucky, I have hairstylists for friends and they knocked 'em out for me, I doubt I could have done them myself. They were worth the extra effort though, rave reviews. :) Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions, those are all definitely in the running. Your "Coco Girl" is genius!

I usually try to find an inspiration and then hit the second hand stores to make it work, but I'm not opposed to buying ready made, I'm checking out CandyAppleCostumes right now.

Halloween isn't really a national tradition here, but usually I celebrate anyway with a group of friends.

Still trying to decide completly. I think it's gonna be either a drowned sailor (sailress?), or an evil twist on little my from the moomins
